The reference of being born out of the darkness of the womb into the light of reality struck a cord with me. Actual physical birth is a struggle, yet being born into the reality of life on earth provides many opportunities for joy, as well as many incidents of hard times or darkness. There is always a "ladder to the light" and rebirth as we travel through the peaks and valleys of our lives.

The "darkness" of the kiva also reminded me of the winter. I feel our timing of the reading of the book is perfect. We are moving out of the darkness of winter and into the new light, rebirth of spring.
I was drawn to Steven's quote, "Out of the dead end of worry and back to the broad and bright streets of hope.:" He has a picturesque way of writing that draws me in.
